Punjab Momo Factory Raid: Dog's Head Found in Refrigerator

Popular Street Food Under Scrutiny

Momo is one of the most popular street foods in India, enjoyed in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian varieties. However, a recent incident in Punjab has shocked food lovers. During a raid by the Punjab Health Department on a momo and spring roll factory in Mohali, authorities discovered a severed dog's head in the factory's refrigerator.

Unsanitary Food Production Exposed

The raid was part of a crackdown on unhygienic food production units after a viral video revealed the factory's deplorable conditions. The footage exposed workers using dirty water and rotten vegetables during food preparation.

Factory's Disturbing Practices

Reports indicate that the factory, located in Mataur village, had been supplying over a quintal of momos and spring rolls daily to Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Kalka for the past two years. During the raid, officials also found large quantities of spoiled meat, a crusher machine, and reused cooking oil, highlighting the unsafe practices at the facility.

Investigation and Fines

It is reported that the dog's head, believed to be that of a pug, was allegedly consumed by the factory workers, who are of Nepali origin. However, officials confirmed that the head was not used in food production. The Veterinary Department is examining the head to determine if any dog meat was used in the factory's products.

Following the raid, the Mohali municipal corporation imposed a fine of ₹12,000 on the factory owner for unauthorized slaughter and an additional ₹10,000 for hoarding plastic bags.
